Harry Potter - The Story So Far
A fascinating, magical journey will conclude tomorrow...a journey that began more than 16 years ago for a then unknown author Joanne Kathleen Rowling. I have been a part of this journey for almost 9 years now...it is a bittersweet feeling to know that the end is near. But I am glad I've been touched by the magic.
Here's my tribute to Jo and one of the best known series ever...may the magic of Harry Potter never vanish from our lives...
The Story so Far
A prophecy was made…a child was born,
To parents who had thrice defied Voldemort
A child with a special power…
That even the Dark Lord knew not.
His parents were killed by Voldemort
A few days after he was born
He alone survived the Death Curse
And was branded ‘The Chosen One’.
Thus begins the tale of Harry Potter
Who didn’t know he was a wizard
Until his eleventh birthday
When he was admitted to Hogwarts.
With his best friends by his side -
Wise Hermione and loyal Ron -
His heroic deeds are greater far
Than any underage wizard ever known
The Philosopher’s Stone he saved in Year 1,
And thwarted Voldemort’s plans for immortality
In Year 2 he entered the Chamber of Secrets,
And saved the life of Ginny Weasley
Year 3 saw him reunited with his godfather,
Sirius, the runaway Prisoner of Azkaban;
The Goblet of Fire put him in grave peril, in Year 4,
When he watched Lord Voldemort’s return.
The Boy Who Lived fought the Dark Lord,
And lived, yet again, to tell the tale.
Of the return of a wizard, long believed dead
Yet now, neither friendless nor frail.
The Ministry thought he’d lost his mind
Fudge said it was a made-up story
But Dumbledore believed, and sent emissaries
Far and near, to gather an army.
Thus began his fifth year at Hogwarts,
The Order of the Phoenix was ready
To prevent Voldemort from getting his hands
On a secret weapon – the prophecy.
The Order fought the Death Eaters
And Sirius fell through the veil,
Lord Voldemort entered the Ministry
And Fudge had to believe Harry’s tale.
In Year 6 Dumbledore decided
To arm Harry against Voldemort.
He told him about the Horcruxes –
Those parts of the Dark Lord’s soul.
The Half Blood Prince then made his choice
To kill Dumbledore and join the Dark side.
Whether he remains true to the Order,
Only the Deathly Hallows will decide.
The story of Harry and Voldemort will come to an end
Though neither can live while the other survives,
The power of Love will triumph
Over the quest for immortal life.
